Practical Investigation - Brief

Brief 1

Background info

The artists' book is a medium of artistic expression that uses the form and/or function of a book as inspiration. What separates an artist’s book from a literary work is the artist’s intent, whether that be traditional or experimental; the artist uses the format to express subconscious, thematic and aesthetic issues rather than to communicate a resolved narrative. Through an increased awareness and accessibility of production and distribution, creatives are adopting the artists' book to publish their artistic ambitions outside of a commercial context.
